Community Guidelines

Gists is a place to chat, share and listen. These guidelines keep it friendly and safe for everyone. They apply to everything on Gists: Gists, photos, voice notes, captions, comments, profiles and messages.

Be kind and respectful

• No bullying, harassment, threats or encouraging others to pile on someone.
• No hate: don't attack people for their race, ethnicity, tribe, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender, sexual orientation or age.
• Disagree with ideas, not people.

Keep people safe

• No violence, threats of violence or praise of violent attacks.
• No content that encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders. If you or a friend is struggling, please reach out to someone you trust or a local helpline.
• Nothing that sexualises anyone under 18, ever. We remove it, close the account and report it to the authorities. See Child Safety.
• No sharing intimate photos or recordings of anyone without their consent.
• No nudity or sexual content.

Be honest

• Don't pretend to be someone else or a company you don't represent.
• No scams, fake giveaways, pyramid schemes or asking people for money under false pretences.
• No spam: don't send the same message to lots of people, or follow and unfollow to get attention.
• Don't spread false information that could cause real harm, such as fake health cures.

Respect privacy and the law

• Don't post anyone's private information, such as phone numbers, addresses or ID documents, without their permission.
• Only share photos, music and recordings you have the right to share.
• Nothing illegal: no selling drugs, weapons or stolen goods, and no promoting terrorism.

What you can do

• Block anyone: they can no longer see your Gists or contact you.
• Make your account private so only people you approve see your Gists.
• Report a person, Gist, comment or message from its menu. Reports are private: the person is not told who reported them.

What we do

We review reports and may remove content, warn you, limit what you can do, or suspend or delete your account, depending on how serious it is and whether it has happened before. Serious harm, such as threats to someone's life or anything sexualising a child, means immediate removal and a report to the authorities. If you think we made a mistake, email [email protected].
